Norman Central ► Quilt Expo & Demonstration

The Norman Area Quilters Guild presents its annual quilt expo and demonstration, featuring nature-inspired quilts.

Quilters from the Norman Area Quilters Guild will take over the Library's Lowry Room on Saturday April 4th to demonstrate their craft.

Stop by at any time to watch as local quilters exhibit all facets of their age-old craft including quilting by hand, piecing with a hand-cranked sewing machine and creating quilts with 21st century computer-based sewing machines. Drop in throughout the day to talk about quilts, learn about quilting and the local quilt guild, and discuss solutions to your quilting challenges.

Be sure to be there at 11 am when Dr. Elizabeth Bergey, a professor in the University of Oklahoma's Department of Biology will make a presentation on the early history of the sewing machine. Think back to all those wonderful quilts your relatives made those many, many years ago. Come hear as Dr. Bergey tells us about how quilters transitioned from hand sewing to using the early sewing machines to make their quilts. You will walk away from this presentation and the workshop with a greater appreciation for the skill and dedication of quilters past and present.

Visit the Library's Gallery room during the month of April to view a collection of Nature Inspired quilts created by members of the Norman Area Quilters Guild.
