Norman West ► Muslim Voices For Teens
“Muslim Voices” is a program supported by the Oklahoma Humanities Council and New York Humanities Council that highlights the wide variety of Muslim experiences and invites both Muslims and non-Muslims to read and discuss together. The goal of the program is to bring teens together to start meaningful conversations about the shared humanity of non-Muslim and Muslim peoples and to explore these commonalities through universal themes that cross cultural, religious, and ethnic divides.
The program is not designed to teach Islam but rather to discuss all-inclusive subjects such as courage, community, faith, and freedom. This is a four part program where teens will read a different book at each session and discuss the themes with one another as well as a scholar. Attending all sessions is recommended. Each teen will be given four books to be discussed at the sessions along with snacks, fun, and great conversation.

Mar 9 – Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
Mar 23 – No Safe Place by Deborah Ellis
April 6 – Does My Head Look Big in This? By Randa Abdel-Fattah
April 20 – How Does It Feel to Be a Problem? By Moustafa Bayoumi

Each session is limited to 20 teens. Please register online and pick up the first book at the Norman West Public Library.
